This bathroom started out as more of a “toilet closet,” as they like to say in Europe, and an adjoining bedroom closet. Our contractor guessed that when they added indoor plumbing to the house many decades ago, this WC was probably built as an addition. To bring the bathroom up to code, we had to provide clearance in front of the new toilet which meant scooting the existing doorway over a bit. We kept the original door jamb but reframed the wall between the laundry and the new bathroom. The flooring needed to be replaced as it was worn out vinyl, but everything I wanted was too expensive and I didn’t want to just put in different vinyl. So I painted it the new subfloor. Same gray that we have in the other bathroom and the dining room. Yolo Colorhouse Stone 06. Then I sealed it with special floor sealer. Our main bathroom turned out rather masculine and a little broody. The laundry/bath is quite perky and the traditional Indian pattern that inspired the floor makes it a little feminine.
